Lavrov claimed that phasing out imports has paid off for Russia

Sergei Lavrov, Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, claimed that phasing out imports has paid off for Russia, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

“In general, the Russian economy is standing on both feet and has adapted to low oil prices,” the minister said.

Lavrov also added that neither Russia nor Italy have benefitted from economic sanctions. According to the minister, Italy's direct economic losses from the EU's sanctions against Russia have cost the country about $2.5–3 billion.
