Half a million Russians have returned to Russia in 2016, said Dmitry Medvedev, addressing the In Unity With Russia Forum.
“My fellow countrymen, of course, we are looking forward to your return to Russia. For this reason, we have launched a state program to assist resettlement from abroad. This year we have marked the arrival of the program's 500,000th participant,” Medvedev announced.
The head of the Russian government added that most of those who have come back to Russia were from Ukraine.
“It is clear that over half of these people are refugees from Ukraine. They are scared; they have been in the war zone; they have been greatly shaken; many of them have lost their loved ones. They pin their hopes on Russia, on its support, assistance and protection. Of course, Russia has always been and remains their second motherland. Many of them are planning to stay here for good,” Medvedev said.
