Russia’s Federal Tourism Agency, or Rosturizm, and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, in collaboration with the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers, are developing a gastronomic map of Russia that will be presented this autumn, according to Oleg Safonov, head of Rosturizm.

According to Safonov, agricultural tourism is the second most popular type of tourism in the world after beach resorts. "It's not very developed in our country, unfortunately, although it seems to me that this field has a huge potential,” he said. “We are currently working with the Ministry of Agriculture to develop agricultural tourism and create a gastronomic map of Russia.”

“A gastronomic map is an exciting and promising new product,” Safonov continued. “Initially, farms interested in attracting tourists would organise beta-version tours. The tourists who take part in these test runs will go to rural sites and rate the products and routes. Then, in accordance with their opinions, a product for the tourism market will be developed.”

The map is expected to be unveiled this autumn at a festival in Crimea. "The map will be presented this autumn in Crimea at the Vinograd gastronomic festival, which gathers the main producers of gastronomic products and wine from all over Russia," Safonov said.
