The Russian Federal Space Agency Roscosmos has launched its fourth GLONASS ground control station on the territory of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), Brazil, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

The station was designed by Precision Systems and Instruments, a research and production corporation that is part of Roscosmos. Besides its main purpose to increase the accuracy of ephemeris and time data and enhance GLONASS performance, Brazilian scientists can use it to conduct research.

The first GLONASS station for differential correction and monitoring was commissioned on the campus of the University of Brasília in 2013 and another quantum optical location station opened there in 2014. The third station was established in Feb. 2016 in Pernambuco Federal Institute of Education Science and Technology in Recife.
