Moscow is one of the safest cities for foreign tourists in the world, said the President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, Sergei Shpilko at the Gaidar Forum. His statement was quoted by RIA Novosti.
"It differs from year to year, but, according to the Moscow police, the number of reported crimes committed against foreign tourists does not exceed more than two or three dozen a year. It's a tiny figure for such a large metropolis like Moscow," he said.
He also added that Moscow shows far better results in this respect than such major tourist cities like Tokyo or New York. At the same time, the capital of Russia was among the first in the world to create tourist police.
"Our colleagues in China are now doing the same," said Sergei Shpilko and added that this was more of a "psychological" measure, but it proved to be very popular and useful.
