The Moscow Zoo and Moscow’s Department of Culture are planning to start an eco tour programme for Moscow and its surroundings. The proposed trips will take from one to four days, according to Mos.ru.
"[The tours] can be an informative recreation activity for the whole family for a weekend or a holiday, a study trip for school students or an educational adventure for foreign tourists," said Svetlana Akulova, the zoo’s general director.
The tour will include bus trips to parks, historic estates and nurseries, including a nursery close to Volokolamsk that is usually closed to visitors. The nursery is a home for rare and endangered animals like the Amur tiger, the Amur leopard, the Siberian Crane and nearly 160 other species. Wild animals saved by people are also brought here.
Tourists will stay at an eco hotel in the Moscow suburbs. "We will announce which hotels, estates and parks will be included in the programme in March at the National Forum of Educational and Eco Tourism, which is held in coordination with the Russian Union of Zoos and Aquariums," Akulova said.
Akulova wasn't able to say what the approximate cost of the tours will be but she assured that the prices would be affordable.
