About 100 people are expected to be the first students in the new Space Studies Department at Moscow State University, or MSU, according to Viktor Sadovnichy, MSU’s president.
"Admission will be coordinated with all the institutions involved in space exploration: Roscosmos, RSC Energia, the Space Research Institute and so on,” Sadovnichy explained. “We have agreements with all of them.”
He noted that the new department, which will have several specialisations, is open to cooperation with all leading corporations.
The plans to create such a department became public knowledge in November 2016 when Sadovnichy announced the plan at the All-Russian Forum for Gifted Children in Yaroslavl. The department officially opened this January.
