In the next two years, Russian Helicopters expect to hand over the first batch of new Mi-38 helicopters to the Russian army, head of the state company Andrei Boginsky told Lenta.ru during HeliRussia-2017 exhibition.

"We are negotiating to supply the first batch. We assume that first helicopters will be delivered to the Ministry of Defence in 2018-2019. This issue is under discussion. Moreover, we are negotiating with other state customers", Boginsky said.

Brand new Russian multipurpose transport helicopter of middle range Mi-38 was presented at HeliRussia-2016 exhibition in Moscow.

First design projects for Mi-38 date back to 1981, when engineers were working on a model that could replace the outdated Mi-8 (Mi-17) helicopter. Mi-38 can be used both as cargo and passenger aircraft, and can also serve as a search and rescue aircraft and a flying hospital. It is equipped with carrier and tail screws constructed of composite materials.
