A train in honour of the upcoming New Year celebrations is running on the Moscow Metro’s Ring Line, according to the transportation system’s website.
Moscow Metro head Dmitry Pegov and Grandfather Frost, Russia’s equivalent of Santa Claus, attended the opening ceremony held at Komsomolskaya station.
The main elements of the New Year decorations are bullfinches, fir tree branches and snowflakes. The train drivers will be wearing holiday costumes as well.
The New Year train is one of two unique EZh-3 trains that still run in the metro despite the fact that the use of this train type was discontinued. The New Year train will run on the Ring Line until Jan. 15.
The Moscow Metro hopes for this train to become a yearly tradition, with it operating on a different metro line each year.
