The tourist flow from China to Russia will increase thanks to simplified visa procedures and the number of visitors from China is expected to reach five million people per year, Izvestia reported. Over the past five years, the visa-free tourist flow from China to Russia has increased six-fold. During the first nine months of 2016, Russia received 40% more Chinese tourists than during the same period in 2015.

According to the Russian government, trips to Russia will gain more popularity among Chinese tourists in 2017 thanks to the coming anniversary of the 1917 October Revolution. “We see great potential here,” said Alexander Agamov, deputy executive director of World Without Borders. “The Communist Party of China has more than 70 million members and there are tens of millions of members in the Komsomol [young communists].”

Another reason for visiting Russia is the FIFA Confederations Cup this summer, which will take place in four cities, and the 2018 World Cup, which will take place in 11 cities. “China is home to 300 million football fans,” said Oleg Safonov, head of the Federal Tourism Agency. “This is a huge potential audience.”
