In her speech at the forum “Russia – Country of Sports”, the Governor of Vladimir Region Svetlana Orlova called for Western nations not to hurry with lifting their sanctions against Russia, Rambler News Service reported on Tuesday.
“I told the Germans at the St. Petersburg Dialogue (annual Russian-German forum – ed.): you have no idea what kind of nation we are. The more you press us, the stronger we get. This is who we are. The villages are just booming now. And this is the case in all areas,” Orlova said.
According to TASS, in June this year, Sergey Ivanov, then serving as the head of the Kremlin Administration, noted that the prolongation of the sanctions regime has stimulated the development of the Russian economy. “The sanctions proved to be a blessing in disguise,” Ivanov said.
In 2014, the European Union, the US and a number of other countries imposed sanctions against Moscow following the annexation of Crimea to Russia and the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. The EU’s restrictive policy includes visa constraints against individuals, economic sanctions targeting state-controlled companies in the oil, defence and financial sectors as well as restrictive measures against Crimea.
