Russian Post, the country’s postal service, is considering shipping mail from China to Europe on its own commercial jets. The company may start doing so within the next five years but this project requires “completely different airliners,” according to Dmitry Strashnov, head of Russian Post.

“We are analysing the market possibilities,” Strashnov said. “There is no concrete date at this time. The fact is that we’re working on it. I think that this will happen in sooner than five years.”

Russian Post announced earlier this month that it would use its own aircraft to ship mail from China across Russia.

Strashnov announced that during peak periods, such a method of transport is twice as cheap as if the company commissioned these services from other parties.
