Scientists from the Institute of Civil Engineering of the St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University, or SPbPU, invented building blocks based on high-strength, lightweight concrete with nano structures. As a result, the load-bearing capacity of a building might be increased by 200% while the construction’s weight would decrease by 80%.
The building blocks are resistant to corrosion, inclement weather conditions and severe frosts. During their experiments, the scientists developed several types of building blocks based on the lightweight concrete.
The scientific team has already received a patent for this invention. The territorial industrial-innovation cluster St. Petersburg Composite Cluster is interested in working with SPbPU to further work on this project.
