Sergei Korneev, deputy head of Russia’s Federal Tourism Agency, said that 133 British tour operators were offering package tours to Russia, TASS reported.
According to Korneev, such a step indicates a growing interest in Russia in the UK. Moscow and St. Petersburg are the most popular destinations, Korneev said, although tourists from the UK also like to visit Kazan and the Silver Ring in northwest Russia.
Korneev also said that tourists from the UK are mostly interested in Russian culture and history. Tourists’ demand for Russia has recently grown thanks to the new British TV series “War and Peace,” which is based on Leo Tolstoy’s novel, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In November, Korneev said that the Federal Tourism Agency was counting on the World Cup to attract travellers from the UK to Russia.
