A huge felt boot or valenok appeared on the Solyanoy Lane in central St. Petersburg, the local newspaper Fontanka reported on Tuesday.

According to Valeria Loshak, the creator of the giant felt boot, the object will soon be transferred to a podium. The artist added that the boot is made of natural wool and it took one month to construct it.

The unusual sculpture was installed to mark the opening of the “Two Academies: Vilnius – St. Petersburg” international exhibition which will take place from April 12 to May 10.

Valenki are the traditional Russian winter footwear, essentially felt boots: the name valenok literally means “made by felting”.
