The decision of the Russian government to introduce facilitated visa policy for football fans during 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 World Cup is a “unique” practice, said the President of FIFA Gianni Infantino.

“Russia is ready to host the Confederations Cup. I have been working in football industry for a long time, but I have never seen a government so willing to negotiate. Introduction of the facilitated visa regime is an absolutely unique decision,” Infantino noted during his speech at the FIFA congress.

On May 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on a simplified visa regime allowing fans to enter Russia with a “Fan Passport” and avoid routine visa issuing process.

The special visa regime comes into operation 72 hours before the start of the first game and stops working on the last day of the tournament.
