Canadian newspaper The Hockey News named Kirill Kaprizov, a prospect currently playing for KHL club Salavat Yulaev Ufa, the world’s most promising hockey player, according to the magazine’s website.
Besides Kaprizov, the top five included Philippe Myers from Canada (Philadelphia Flyers), Jordan Greenway from the US (Minnesota Wild) and Canadians Thomas Chabot (Ottawa Senators) and Brandon Montour (Anaheim Ducks).
Kaprizov has played 54 games this season for Salavat Yulaev, racking up 23 goals and 22 assists.
At the World Youth Championships earlier this year in Canada, Kaprizov was selected as the tournament’s best forward. In the National Hockey League draft in 2015, the Minnesota Wild chose Kaprizov in the fifth round with the 135th pick.
