This coming April, for the second year running, the St. Petersburg Botanical Garden will be hosting the St. Petersburg Exhibition of Botanical Art.
Botanical art is the art of depicting the form, colour and details of plant species, frequently in watercolour paintings, on a neutral, usually white background. Its main difference from botanical illustration is that it offers more artistic freedom. Once extremely popular in Russia, botanical art is currently enjoying a well-deserved and very enthusiastic comeback.
The exhibition is organised by a group of artists and botanical art aficionados under the guidance of Alexander Viazmensky, and this year they will be joined by colleagues from Moscow.
The exhibition opens on April 4 and will run until April 16 from 11 am till 6 pm daily except Mondays. The Botanical Garden ticket offices close at 16.30.
