The 9th of May, as usual, has seen processions of military machinery and regiments on central squares of Russian cities and towns.

Today, Russia and post-Soviet republics marked the 72nd anniversary of USSR’s glorious victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 with large-scale parades, concerts and festivities.

Celebrated annually since 1945, just after the German forces signed capitulation on 8th May 1945 (after midnight, thus on 9th May Moscow Time), this multinational holiday commemorates the sacrifices made by those who protected their motherland, with many of them giving their lives for its future.

As the Victory Day’s official song goes, “It is a holiday with tears on the eyes,” which both celebrates life and freedom and mourns for the brave deceased to whom we owe a lot.
